Business Concept Changes

Throughout the completion of these tasks, I've made a decision regarding the concept behind my business idea. Having realised that running a proof-reading business would seem fairly dull and boring, not to mention limiting with my skills in writing, I've decided that I'm going to attempt to go down a different route for the business that is more creative in tone.

Having done some research into Etsy writing commission businesses, I noticed quite a common trend among them; mentioning bringing the ideas of their clients to life where they weren't able to. Most notably, the best-selling writing business on Etsy has the first few lines of their description stating "Have you ever had an idea in your head for a short story or prose/poetry piece, but just didn't know where to start or how to get your vision down onto paper?". This introduction to the business gave me an insight into a potential way to make money starting off in the writing business.

For the new direction of my business, I intend to allow clients to come to me with story ideas that they aren't able to write themselves, whether this be due to a lack of writing ability, not having the time or motivation to start or even just wanting to see an idea of their own come to life, and allow me to help them. They'll give me details for their story, such as characters and plot, and I'll then combine this brief with my own creative flair to write a unique original story matching the creative vision of the client. An example of this business model working well can be seen here [https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1024489949/writing-commissions?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=writing+commissions&ref=sr_gallery-1-1&frs=1&bes=1].

In order to avoid overflowing the market with these sorts of businesses, I'd have to ensure to do one of the following countermeasures; utilise a different market than Etsy or differing myself from the other businesses by offering something they don't. An idea was given to me by my teacher, Suzi, who offered up the idea of bespoke personalised stories to act as novelty gifts. Being able to provide novelty stories that people can gift each-other would allow people to include their own lives into the stories, giving myself an edge over the business mentioned earlier (as they explicitly state they won't do real live people or events).

I believe this is a far better business model than the proofreading business and gives me more resources to work with in Norwich, leading me to have adjusted the path of my business to this.
